I allowed this comment as it seems genuine, but I hope you are not suggesting anything illegal or violent? In that case, their moral poverty will have defeated us, even if we do get the money.

Hi guys,

If anyone is interested in doing this another way, I'll be willing to go and see these people in person to recover the money and teach them a lesson. So if you feel the legal version is taking you no-where I could take care of this my own way if you help me cover my travel expenses and provide the necessary information about these people's whereabouts.

Best regards,
Hallvardo

Don't accept work from Eric Dawson and his partner in crime, the company BestTranslators in Signapore, Thomas Mezzi.

They won't pay you for the best of work!

Also don't work for info@carpediem-services.com, a company in India, office manager Sarma Bharadvaja. The owner of that company is Srao Bandi who calls himself also Brandis. He is a cheater and non-payer. He is in Berlin. His project manager is a woman in Germany by the name Gundula Korb. He also claims that this is his Ing. Bureau in Germany:

Dear Teresa,
I passed your message as a good example for those new to the game of the kind of inquiry one should handle with great suspicion.
1) Like bait on a fishing line, it is not addressed to any specific translator, but to anyone who will bite.
2) It is not at all specific about the nature of the job.
3) It claims to be very urgent, which prepares the ground for skipping over proper initial inquiries.
4) Rather than the timetable being tight as a matter of fact, an attempt is made to draw the reader in to feel sorry for the poster.
5) The domain "tin.it" is registered to someone, but does not have an actual website.
6) Teresa does not give her full name.
7) The URL "vostok.it" does indeed have a simple but reasonably genuine looking website. I have just sent an inquiry to see if they have heard of Teresa, so probably it will soon be possible to see if she is genuine.

As things stand, I wouldn't touch an inquiry like this with a barge-pole. My suspicions could be wrong. In that case, Teresa, I think you should neverthess look hard at why experienced translators might be reluctant to get involved.

PS: After about on hour I had a reply from vostok, and it appears that the person really does exist, so perhaps it is indeed genuine.

(Note from Alex Wilding: I only published this message with the intention that it should be read together with my own comment below. The message from "Teresa" starts on the next line:)
Unfortunately i have been captured in a trap. I gave to these translators Nicole SCHMIDT and other names conneceted to this name a big job of about 200 pages, which should be done within this 24th of January, then I tried to connect with them by phone but nobody is anwering, i'm convicned that this is a trap. So plese help me in finding a translator who could do this job, i still have one full week time, i own a well eslatblished agency since 1985 and my client is very serious, I'm really disatisfied with this behaviour. Email to urgent: tecladm@@tin.it

I too was conned by Gyanendra Kumar (I believe he is the person behind most of the scams mentioned here and is most likely this Heinz guy as well). He runs a company in India, a web design/hosting service, which he probably also uses to run various websites such as www.tarintranslation.com, scandicnet.com (now offline I think). One of his latest incarnations is in the former company, using the name Kelvin Marks (I strongly suspect). Gyanendra Kumar's company information is here:

Gyanendra Kumar
Company Name : Ziel Softtech Pvt. Ltd.
Postal Address : Indranagar
Phone(s) : 91-80-9880719686
Reliance Phone(s) : 32417108
Mobile Phone : 9934129686

The URLs for his company websites are as follows:

http://www.zielweb.com/
http://www.zielsoftech.com/
http://domain.zielweb.com/

I would imagine that this information would go a long way to taking this guy to court.

Hope the above helps

Hello, I'm so sorry to all of those who have lost out to these scammers. My advise would be to require an advance for any job of substance. But what I really wanted to address was the post from Anonymous just above here; Anonymous wrote:

"He also claims to have studied languages from California University, which I believe is a lie."

Yes indeed, there are dozens of Universities in California, none of which are called "California University". If accepting jobs from anyone-ANYONE-for the love of god, please Google them. It takes a moment, and that one moment can save you hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours of time! I'm not saying it's foolproof but it will give you, in most cases, a good idea of where your headed. Best of luck to all of you. And to those of you seeking legal action- Good For You! I really hoe something comes of it and I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'm cheering you on!
